Indian envoy expresses concern over security of embassy in Bangladesh
In response, the chief adviser assured that all necessary security measures would be taken
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma raised concerns about the security of the Indian embassy and establishments in Bangladesh during a meeting with the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
They also discussed the ongoing flood situation, along with topics related to BIMSTEC and SAARC, the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy after the meeting at state guest house Jamuna today (22 August).
"The flood situation in Tripura is unprecedented. Approximately 50,000 people have been displaced. He (Pranay Verma) said that it has created havoc on both sides, India and Bangladesh.
"On the other hand, Dr Yunus said that just as they hold flag meetings at the border, they can have high-level collaboration in emergency situations like flood," he added.
Shafiqul further said, "The Indian high commissioner also expressed his concerns about the security of Indian diplomatic premises and other establishments in Bangladesh."
In response, the chief adviser assured that all necessary security measures would be taken.
Shafiqul Alam also said that during the discussion, the chief adviser referenced the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan and raised the issue of river water sharing with Bangladesh.
The conversation also addressed the importance of high-level collaboration between the two countries.
The press secretary clarified that there was no discussion regarding the trial of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina or her possible repatriation.
