10,000 kilometres dredging project inaugurated
The estimated budget for this project is Tk4,371 crore and is scheduled to be completed by June 2024
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has inaugurated the project of 10,000 kilometres mega dredging system on Saturday in Sherpur district.
The dredging is being implemented near old Barhmaputra River to improve inland river navigability by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
Abdul Matin, chief engineer of BIWTA for dredging told The Business Standard, "Under the project, four rivers - Brahmaputra, Dhorla, Punarbhaba, Tulsi-will be dredged."
"Third party dredgers will also be hired through tender for conducting capital dredging along with BIWTA," he added.
The estimated budget for this project is Tk4,371 crore and is scheduled to be completed by June 2024.
Replying to a query, the chief engineer said, "BIWTA will not buy any additional dredger under the project."
