‘PM working to make Cox’s Bazar a world-class tourist city’
Railways minister said the start of railway service from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar after the completion of Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail link project will usher in revolutionary changes in the tourism sector
Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working with the plan to make Cox's Bazar an international standard tourist city.
"The country's tourism sector and economic activities will see revolutionary changes once railway service from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar starts," he said after inspecting the construction sites of Cox's Bazar railway station and Dohajari-Cox's Bazar dual gauge rail line.
The minister praised the Cox's Bazar district administration for their work and expressed his satisfaction over the progress in the construction of the rail line.
He said, "This project will be completed by June 30, 2022 and the train service from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar will start after that. Prior to that, all people affected by land acquisition for this project will get compensated."
Later, the railways minister handed over cheques for Tk1 crore each to five land owners.
Acting Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Tax) of Cox's Bazar Md Ashraful Afsar, Project Director Md Mofizur Rahman, and Additional Director of Bangladesh Railway Dhirendranath Majumder were also present there, among others.
The railways minister went to Cox's Bazar on a two-day visit on Friday. He held a views-exchange meeting on land acquisition for "Dohazari-Cox's Bazar Dual Gauge Railway Construction Project".
After inspecting the progress of the rail line construction project on Saturday, the minister left for Chattogram Circuit House by road in the afternoon.
