Islamic Foundation calls for donations to govt zakat fund
The foundation has decided to help coronavirus-affected people with the donations
The Islamic Foundation has urged all those eligible for paying zakat to donate the amount to the government zakat fund.
This year, the fund will be used to help the poor who have lost their incomes due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the shutdown, the foundation said in a press release issued on Thursday.
Donations to the fund are usually used to create self-employment opportunities for impoverished people, for improving treatment facilities in children's hospitals, to give educational stipends to the underprivileged, to help the victims of natural disasters, tree plantation programmes, rehabilitating physically challenged people, training destitute women in sewing, and other welfare activities.
However, as the country is going through a crisis at the moment, the foundation has decided to help the coronavirus-affected people this time, the press release adds.
