IUB seminar call for research on climate change
The participants at the seminar discussed the role of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development at the event
International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) Director Prof Saleemul Huq emphasized on high-quality researches and studies on climate change in universities as Bangladesh is one of the countries that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate crisis.
He was presenting a keynote paper at a seminar on climate change organised by the Independent University, Bangladesh held at its Bashundhara campus recently, said a press release.
He also urged upon all stakeholders to enhance their capacities in handling climate change issues.

They also highlighted the background of the founding of ICCCAD and its present and future goals.
Besides, head of DFID-Bangladesh Judith Herbertson, resident representative of UNDP-Bangladesh Sudipto Mukerjee and former additional secretary of environment, forests and climate change ministry Dr Nurul Quadir also discussed on various aspects of climate change and made suggestions for upcoming Conference of Parties (COP26).
Judith Herbertson discussed sociological perspectives on climate change, gender and adaptation initiatives that are taking place in Bangladesh.
She also said most recognise environmental changes at the local levels, but understanding of climate change is still limited,
Sudipto Mukerjee said Bangladesh should enhance its ability in combating climate change, rather than depending on global support.
