July uprising: Six bodies at DMCH still unclaimed after six months
Of the bodies, there are five, including one named, males and one unnamed female
The bodies of six people killed during the July-August uprising, also called the Monsoon Revolution, remain unclaimed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue nearly six months after the uprising.
The Special July Uprising Cell of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which spearheaded the uprising, disclosed the information in a press statement citing police officials today (10 January).
Of the bodies, there are five, including one named, males and one unnamed female.
The unnamed males are estimated to be aged 20, 25, 22, and 30 years old respectively. The unnamed woman is estimated to be 32 years old. The named deceased, Enamul, is estimated to be 25 years old.
However, any further details regarding Enamul's identity could not be confirmed.
After finding out about the unclaimed bodies, a team of the special cell collected information in this regard and talked to police officials at Shahbagh Police Station.
"Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Monsur confirmed that the six bodies are still lying unclaimed at the mortuary. The bodies are being kept at Dhaka Medical College Forensic Morgue," reads the Student Movement's press statement.
The statement also reads that post-mortem reports of the body say that five of the unnamed deceased have died "due to injuries" while Enamul died "due to falling down from height".
The Student Movement also said DNA and cloth samples of the six deceased have been collected.
"The Shahbagh Police said the dead bodies belong to the Anti-Discrimination Movement. However, they did not clarify when and on what date they brought the bodies."
The student platform called on the interim government and other stakeholders to return the bodies to their respective families.
It also urged to contact the Special July Uprising Cell if someone has a missing family member who fits the description of any of the deceased.
