On October 25, the authorities will start the payment of the dues of two more mills’ workers
The due wages of all the mill workers under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) will be paid in full by next month, says Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.
He disclosed the information at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday noon, saying the initiative had been taken as per the promise made by the prime minister.
The minister also said, "A total of Tk1,790 crore has so far been received from the Finance Division for the payment of the dues of retired and terminated workers of eight mills. The workers are now being paid through bank accounts and savings certificates."
On October 25, the authorities will start the payment of the dues of two more mills' workers.
"We hope it will be possible to finish the payment of the dues of all workers by next month," Gazi added.
On June 28, the government declared to send the existing 24,886 workers of 25 jute mills into retirement through golden handshake after liquidation.
The jute minister then said the mills under the BJMC, which had been incurring losses for years, would either be modernised or privatised.
