200 passengers of a launch with damaged hull rescued
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) team has rescued 200 passengers of a launch named MV Shahporan, after its hull was damaged hitting a dredger pipe on the Kathabari-Shimulia water route.
The accident caused a significant damage to the hull of the launch, reports Somoy TV.
BIWTA Assistant Director Shahadat Hossain said, "The launch started for Shimulia from Majhikandi at 10am. Its hull had a collision with submerged pipe of a dredger around 11am on the mid of Padma River."
Later BIWTA team rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. And the launch hull has been repaired, he added.
