LED lights in DNCC area New Year’s gift for city dwellers: DNCC Mayor
The lights are environmentally friendly
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said the installation of LED lights in the DNCC area is a New Year's gift from the DNCC for the city's dwellers.
While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Supply and Installation of LED Street Lights in the DNCC Area project, at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh in Agargaon, on Friday, Atiqul added that although initially 42,000 LED lights were supposed to be installed, 46,410 lights will be installed at the same cost, read a press release.
Terming it as an unprecedented event in any project, he further said the lifespan of each light is 22 years. Each light was brought from Europe. The Bangladesh University of Business and Technology has confirmed that the lights are completely safe for the eyes. These lights are also environmentally friendly.
The DNCC mayor thanked the prime minister and the local government minister for handing over the canals from Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority to the city corporation and said they would work together with all councillors for the development of the canals.
Addressing those who have illegally occupied the canal areas, he said, "Leave the [occupied] areas quickly, you cannot occupy them. The boundaries of the canals will be determined by looking at the CS ledger."
The chief guest of the function, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam said the initiative taken by the DNCC to move from darkness to light started today.
"There were many problems in Dhaka city. Many problems have been solved. In the future, we will work from our position to transform Dhaka city into a beautiful and liveable city. The prime minister is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people by fulfilling the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the betterment of Bangladesh," he added.
He continued, "If we work from our position, we will be able to transform not only Dhaka, but all of Bangladesh into a developed country."
At the end of the programme, the guests inaugurated the LED street lights installation project on the road in front of the Election Commission in Agargaon through an app.
Special guests at the occasion were: Helaluddin Ahmed, senior secretary, Local Government Department; Md Selim Reza, chief executive officer, DNCC; Brigadier General Amirul Islam, chief engineer; Rafiqul Islam, project director, LED Street Light Supply Project; Mobasher Hossain, president, Bangladesh Architects Institute; and Ward Councillor Forkan Hossain.
DNCC ward councillors and others were present on the occasion too.
