Lighter ship carrying lentils in accident at Bay of Bengal
A lighter ship carrying lentils met with an accident in Patenga area of the Bay of Bengal on its way to Khulna from Chattogram port on Sunday morning.
Mahbub Rashid Khan, executive director of the Bangladesh Water Transport Cell, said, "The lighter ship loaded around 900 to 959 tonnes of goods from the mother vessel at the outer port and then an accident took place in the Patenga area. The ship was immediately anchored in Patenga beach area."
Mohammad Yunus, the owner of the ship named MV New Golam Rahman, said, "The ship's chain broke when it reached Patenga area of the Bay of Bengal carrying pulses. When the water was about to enter, the ship was brought ashore. The sailors are safe."
