Lightning kills 2 in Moulvibazar

Two people were killed when they were struck by lightning in Moulvibazar's Baralekha upazila on Saturday. They were killed in two separate areas of Moulvibazar.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Matin, 55, son of Ishaq Ali of Gallasangan village under Nizbahadurpur upazila, and Rubel Ahmed, 25, son of late Ramiz Ali of Kazirband village under Barni union of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Abdul Matin went to work in the vegetable field next to his house in the rain around 10 am on Saturday. He died on the spot after being struck by lightning.
The other person, Rubel Ahmed, was fishing in a canal in the Kazirband area around 12 noon. He also died on the spot when struck by lightning. Local people later recovered Rubel's body and took it to his home.
Officer-in-charge of Baralekha police station Yasinul Haque said Union Parishad members in the areas of the two deceased had confirmed the deaths of the two in the lightning strikes.
