Low-income people in Sunamganj receive Tk1cr under BB's Open Loan Programme

Low-income people and farmers in Sunamganj district have received Tk1 crore loans under the Bangladesh Bank (BB) Open Loan Programme.
As the lead bank, BRAC Bank organised the event at Shahid Jogot Jyoti Library in Sunamganj town on Sunday, said a press release today.
A total of 26 banks operating in the district participated in this programme.
The Open Loan Programme offers spot loan facilities to individuals in the low-income bracket and farmers, ensuring financial inclusion for marginalized communities in rural areas.
Md Iqbal Mohasin, Director of the Financial Inclusion Department (FID) of Bangladesh Bank, Head Office, was the chief guest at the programme.
Biplab Kumar Biswas, Head of Small Business (North), SME Banking Division; and Rezaur Rahman, Regional Head of Sylhet Region, Distribution Network of BRAC Bank were also present at the event.
The Open Loan Programme provided an opportunity for no-frill account holders with Tk10/50/100, landless farmers, and micro business owners to obtain spot loans ranging from Tk50,000 to Tk5 lakh. These loans were made available under BB's refinancing facility, which had a total worth of Tk750 crore.
