Make BDR mutiny investigation public: Amaan Azmi
He believes new govt will rebuild country’s institutions
Brigadier General (Retd) Abdullahil Amaan Azmi has said the investigation into the BDR mutiny conducted should be made public to ensure justice for the 57 army officers killed in the incident.
The son of former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ghulam Azam made the appeal through a video call at a press conference held at the National Press Club today.
"The Quran prescribes 'an eye for an eye'. I demand a thorough investigation and justice. The investigation conducted during the previous government should be made public. If they handled it carelessly, they too should be brought under the law," Azmi stated.
Azmi, who was released from "Aynaghor", a secret detention centre, after eight years of captivity, also expressed concerns about the state of the country's institutions.
"All institutions have been destroyed. I believe the new government will rebuild these institutions. I urge all political parties to give the new government time," he added.
Azmi further claimed that he was abducted due to his anti-India stance and being the son of Ghulam Azam.
"After my abduction in 2016, I was interrogated multiple times. At one point, they said there was a fear of an incident, which has now passed, and I would be released soon," he said.
"On 7 December 2016, I was questioned about why I wrote against India on Facebook. I responded that our foreign policy is friendship with all, and enmity with none. However, India has often tried to dominate us instead of giving us our rightful share. I will continue writing," he added.
"In 2021, I was told I would be released if I agreed not to engage in politics and leave the country. But I did not agree," Azmi added.
