"The automatic gate system malfunctioned as passengers got stuck while getting off the train. We resolved the issue promptly," said Nasir Uddin Ahmed, director (operations and maintenance) of DMTCL
Metro rail operations were disrupted for over half an hour this morning (5 January) when two women got trapped between the train and platform gates at Shewrapara Station.
The incident occurred at 9:31am, causing significant delays and crowding at the station.
"The automatic gate system malfunctioned as passengers got stuck while getting off the train. We resolved the issue promptly," said Nasir Uddin Ahmed, director (operations and maintenance) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
Abdur Rouf, managing director of DMTCL, said, "A technical issue in the train door prevented it from closing, causing the disruption. We sincerely apologise to passengers."
During the delay, agitated passengers grew frustrated with the extended waiting time, not knowing what was causing the delay.
Station staff were seen working to manage the situation and ensure safety until services resumed at 10:08am.
