Bangladeshis abroad will receive training: Minister
Initially started in Greece, the training programme will be expanded to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia soon
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad Thursday said the government has initiated training programmes for Bangladeshi nationals staying abroad so that they could be turned into a skilled labour force.
The minister said this at the virtual inauguration of the culinary training programme for Bangladeshis living in Greece.
He said though the trainings initially began in Greece, it would be expanded to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia soon.

Noting that the ministry is always by the side of the expatriates, he called upon them to brighten the image of the country on foreign soil as skilled workers with proper trainings. He also mentioned that newer courses will be included to the programme in future.
Secretary to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ahmed Munirus Sallehin spoke at the occasion as a special guest while Bangladesh Ambassador to Greece Ashud Ahmed chaired the event.
The secretary said that there is no alternative for training to create skilled workforce. Training should be appropriate and relevant as employment is closely linked with training.
He commented that only proper training could meet the demand in the labour market.
According to government data, more than one crore Bangladeshis are working in different countries around the globe. However, the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training says around 47% of the migrant workers are not sufficiently skilled.
