Miscreant enters home, hacks 3 people including journalist’s parents in Faridpur
All three have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital
The parents of a journalist and another person were hacked with a sharp weapon by an unidentified assailant at their home at Dumain village in Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila last night (3 January).
The incident happened at around 8:30pm yesterday, according to locals and police.
Two of the victims were identified as Shyamalendu Bosu, 65, and Kakali Bosu, 61 – parents of Saugat Bosu, a staff correspondent of national daily Ajker Patrika. The third victim was the family's neighbour Preeti Malo, 16.
All three were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
"No one except my parents lives at the house. Preeti takes care of my ailing mother. It was not an incident of theft or robbery. Who would come at such time in the evening to rob a family? Moreover, nothing was stolen. It feels like it was an attack," said Saugat.
According to locals, Saugat's parents were watching television when the unidentified person entered their home. As the family tried to catch him, the assailant first struck Shamalendu in his head with the sharp weapon he was carrying. Then he hacked Kakali and Preeti and managed to flee.
However, the district's Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Shailen Chakma said, "Primarily it seems that the incident happened when someone entered the home with the intention to steal."
He said it was a teenager of 14-15 years of age who had entered the house. The intruder used the sharp weapon to fend off the family when they chased and tried to catch him. "Legal steps will be taken over this incident."
