‘Missing’ Barishal police official placed on remand 40hrs after being picked up
According to the remand petition, Alep Uddin was apprehended by the Detective Branch (DB) of Barishal Metropolitan Police from Barishal city on Monday night
A Dhaka court today (14 November) placed a police officer, Alep Uddin, additional police superintendent of Barishal district, on two-day remand in a murder case filled with Jatrabari police station.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate judge Mohammad Sharifur Rahman issued the order after the investigating officer produced him before court seeking a five-day remand.
According to the remand petition, Alep Uddin was apprehended by the Detective Branch (DB) of Barishal Metropolitan Police from Barishal city on Monday night as directed by its senior officials.
However, Alep's family claims he was picked up from the Barishal Range DIG office on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday night, his wife Nusrat told the reporters that Alep called her on Tuesday noon and informed them that a team of DB had picked him up.
"It has been nearly 32 hours since he was picked up, but we still have no information about his location", she added.
A 31st BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) cadre officer, Alep Uddin served in the Special Branch (SB) of police during public and student protests.
