Mobile internet users face connection issues near Nayapaltan
Many mobile internet users near the BNP rally in the capital's Nayapaltan area faced connectivity issues yesterday.
Our correspondents covering the BNP rally also reported similar issues near Paltan and Kakrail areas.
They experienced connection disruption from Kakrail Masjid intersection, Ramna park, Hare Road to Fakirapool, Arambagh and Moghbazar areas.
Asked about mobile phone connectivity issues during the political rallies, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq told reporters on Thursday, "To the best of my knowledge, no mobile tower has been turned off anywhere.
"However, if a tower's capacity is designed to handle 10,000 users and 10 lakh people attempt to connect simultaneously, it may experience slowdowns."
"As far as I know there is no instruction or directive from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission or any other agency regarding the issue," he added.
The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission earlier said mobile internet and voice services often get interrupted in areas with large numbers of users.
