According to sources, Shimul Bhuiyan confessed that there were several plans to kill MP Azim, but they could not be implemented. Finally, a plan was chalked out to kill him in Kolkata. In an apartment in Kolkata, Azim was first rendered unconscious with chloroform. Later, some indecent pictures were taken of him. He was subsequently killed.
Shimul also admitted the involvement of several others, including Jihad, in this act.
Earlier, Tanvir Islam, another accused in the case, gave a confessional statement in court last Tuesday.
According to sources, Tanvir told the court that he was not present at the crime scene and did not know about the murder plan. However, he brought the SIMs used by Azim to the country from Kolkata via Benapole port as per the order of Akhtaruzzan Shaheen, the alleged mastermind.
