Bangabandhu Lecture Series begins in DU

The 'Bangabandhu Lecture Series' has begun on the campus of Dhaka University (DU), marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
DU Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the lecture series on Monday at the university's Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom, said a press release.
Chief Coordinator of The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury made the keynote presentation at the inaugural event.

Paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, DU VC Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty has been established in the university to conduct elementary research on Bangabandhu's work and life.
The institute has the potential to play a unique and distinct role in various branches of education and research in both local and international levels, he also said.
He then urged faculty and researchers at the institute to work towards fulfilling Bangabandhu's dream.
Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said, "Bangabandhu has gifted us an independent, sovereign and non-communal country. With the establishment of this institute, our future generations will get an opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and conduct research on Bangabandhu's life, his struggles, work and ideology."
University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah, who attended the event virtually, assured DU authorities of his unequivocal support for the overall development of the institute.
He hoped that the institute would also play an effective role in preventing the distortion of the history of Bangladesh's independence.
Director of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty Fakrul Alam delivered welcome remarks, with Chairman of Centre for Advanced Research in Arts & Social Sciences (CARASS) Professor Dr Atiur Rahman in the chair.
Later, CARASS' Director Professor Dr Abdul Basir gave the vote of thanks at the programme.
