Murder case filed against Hasina, Quader, 217 others in Joypurhat
A murder case has been filed in Joypurhat against the 350 people, including Awami League (AL) president and ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former ministers Obaidul Quader and Hasan Mahmud over the killing of auto-rickshaw driver Mehdi, 25, during the student-led mass uprising.
The wife of the deceased, Jasmin Akhter, resident of Nahunhat Sheikhpara area under Sadar upazila, filed a murder case as the plaintiff in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court of the district today.
The magistrate of the court took cognizance of the case and directed the Joypurhat Police Station to register it as a statement.
Jasmin Akhter said on 5 August her husband Mehedi went to the town to join the student movement. Mehdi was shot and he died there. Jasmin wants justice for this murder.
The case mentioned that the murder took place at the order of Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and Hasan Mahmud and other accused in the case who include two former Awami League lawmakers of the district Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Samsul Alam Dudu, district Awami League President Arifur Rahman Rocket and General Secretary Zakir Hossain Mandal.
