Next polls to be peaceful, free of political interference: Badiul Alam Majumder
He said the deprived people will get back their voting rights
Upcoming national election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere and there will be no political interference in the polls, said Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, chief of Electoral System Reform Commission.
"Free, fair, impartial and peaceful elections will be held in the country during the tenure of the present interim government," he said while talking to journalists at Rangpur Circuit House conference room in the city last night (18 December).
Majumder said there will be a level-playing field for all during the polls.
In response to a question from journalists about whether the Awami League will be able to participate in the elections, Badiul Alam said, "Like you, we are also waiting to see this. I don't see any obstacles. I don't think any barriers being created for them."
He added, "We want an inclusive election. Those who are prepared to join polls should be able to do so without any hindrance. There will be no obstructions. I hope all parties will take part in the elections."
The Election Commission (EC) will work neutrally and there will be no political interference, he said, adding that the deprived people will get back their voting rights.
Majumder observed that the High Court verdict to restore the non-party caretaker government system has opened an important door regarding the return of the democratic system, reports BSS.
"In the past, the Election Commission was under pressure during the party government. Now the Election Commission will be free from this," he said.
Mentioning that EVM machines were black boxes, he said, "This weak method is not for Bangladesh and the people did not accept it."
Regarding the mass uprising of 2024, Badiul Alam Majumder said Rangpur's Shaheed Abu Sayeed had added a new dimension to this revolution.
"Due to Abu Sayeed's sacrifice, the movement gained momentum across the country and Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign. People across the country will remember his contribution with gratitude," he added.
Rangpur District SUJAN President Bir Muktijoddha Akbor Hossain, its Metropolitan unit President Principal Khandaker Fakhrul Anam Benju, Sujan Divisional Coordinator Rajes De Raju and local leaders were present at that time.
