Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu’s 8th death anniversary Wednesday
Babu was the founder and chairman of United Commercial Bank Ltd
The 8th death anniversary of Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, the former Parliament member and a politician of Awami League, will be observed on Wednesday.
His family members and fellow relatives will organise special prayers at his home town for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Babu, the founder and chairman of United Commercial Bank Ltd, was born on 1945 and died on 04 November, 2012.
He was elected to the National Parliament in 1986, 1991, and 2008 from Chittagong-12 constituency as an Awami League candidate. He was also a freedom fighter and one of the facilitators of the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Babu was twice the President of the Chattogram Chamber and in 1988 and served as the President of the FBCCI, the country's top business organisation.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, a father of three sons and three daughters, established many mosques, madrasas and school colleges in Anwara and West Patiya in Chattogram.
