Industrialist Anwar Hossain passes away
Founder and Chairman of Anwar Group, Alhaj Anwar Hossain died while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital on Tuesday night. He was 83.
This renowned industrialist and former lawmaker had been suffering from dementia and memory losses since 2012.
His namaj-e-janaza was held on Wednesday morning at the Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi of the capital.
Anwar Hossain was one of the oldest entrepreneurs in the country. The company which he built is now one of the top industrial conglomerates in the country.
The business group has a base of about 14,000 employees.
There are about 26 entities including textile, jute, cement, steel, housing, polymer, furniture, automobile, bank, and financial institutions under the group.
Anwar Hossain also served The City Bank as its chairman for four terms.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons. His eldest son Monwar Hossain is the current managing director of Anwar Group.
