Today is the second death anniversary of former election commissioner Mahbub Talukder.
To commemorate the occasion, a milad and doa mahfil will be organised at his daughter's home in New York. Besides, doa and milad mahfil will also take place at an orphanage in Dhaka.
Mahbub Talukder, a freedom fighter, writer, poet, bureaucrat, teacher, and journalist, passed away at a Dhaka hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Born on 13 February 1941, he studied at Nawabpur High School, Dhaka College, and Dhaka University. He served as a lecturer in the Architecture Department at Buet and the Bangla Department at Chittagong University.
A creative writer, Mahbub Talukder wrote several books, including "Nirbachannama" (Election Chronicles). He wrote the book during his tenure as election commissioner from 2017 to 2022, ignoring the government's ire.
However, he could not see the publication of the book.
He said in his writing, "Even after death, my eyes will remain open for the country and its people. I hope to see if they are able to truly reach the realm of democracy through the ballot box. No one will close my eyelids then, this is my hope for my family."
Among his other popular books are "Bangabhabane Panch Saal", "Amlar Amlanama", and "Boddhobhumi".
