Popular folk singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi dies of Covid-19

Ekushey Padak winner eminent folk singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi has passed away after losing his battle with coronavirus.
The folk singer breathed his last at 11.00am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), confirmed his sister-in-law Shipra Gosh, reports Prothom Alo.
He was admitted to Mohakhali Metropolitan Hospital with chest pain on 1 April.
Later, he tested Covid-19 positive and was taken at ICU of a Malibagh hospital. Later, he was shifted to BSMMU after his condition had deteriorated.
Rajbongshi was the recipient of Ekushey Padak in 2018.
President M Abdul Hamid today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of country's eminent folksinger Indro Mohan Rajbongshi.
In a condolence message, the head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of folk singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi.
In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said the contribution of this talented artist who won the Ekushey Padak for the development of country's folk songs of the country will be remembered.
She also prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
He won the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin award in 2007 and the World Master Certificate award the same year in South Korea.
Rajbongshi released a series of albums.
He was involved with Jatra, Palagaan, Nazrul Sangeet and folk songs. He was admitted to the Bulbul Lalitakala Academy in Nazrul song in the late 1960s and completed the five-year course.
He joined the Government College of Music in 1974.
In 1971, Rajbongshi took part in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
In 1998, Rajbongshi established a folk organisation, Bangladesh Lok Sangeet Parishad (Folk Song Council). It works on to practice, preserve, promote and do research on folk songs.
He wrote about 100 folk songs for children, including songs on our liberation war and language movement.
