Over 1,100 including Hasina, Quader sued in 2 new cases in Gazipur

More than 1,100 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader and other top leaders of the party have been sued in two fresh murder cases filed over the killing of protesters by Border Guard Bangladesh in Gazipur on 5 August.
The cases were filed by the family members of two of the deceased with Sreepur police station yesterday night (28 August).
A total of 95 accused have been named in the cases, including Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Organising Secretary of Awami League Mirza Azam, former inspector general of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Habibur Rahman and former chief of Detective Branch Harun Or Rashid.
At least 1,100 others have been kept unnamed in the case documents, said police.
The deceased are- Jakir Hossain Rana, 35, son of Jamal Uddin from Kopatiyapara in Sreepur and Rahmat Mia, 20, son of Monju Mia from Jamthal area in Sariakandi of Bogura.
Confirming the matter, Officer In-Charge of Sreepur police station KM Sohel Rana said, "In his case, Jamal Uddin named 35 people and kept 500-600 others unnamed. Among the named accused is Presidium Member of Awami League Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim."
"Meanwhile, in his case, Monju Mia accused former ICT minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and 59 others as named and kept 500-600 others as unnamed," added the OC.
