The passenger involved in the incident was presented before the airport magistrate's court and penalised with a fine of Tk5,000 yesterday
A passenger and an airport security member were injured during a scuffle at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night (8 January), triggered by a disagreement over moving a trolley.
The passenger involved in the incident was presented before the airport magistrate's court and penalised with a fine of Tk5,000 yesterday.
A video circulating online showed a woman crying and accusing security personnel of assaulting her son, Mohammed Sayed Uddin, who appeared with a swollen face and bruised left eye.
The incident occurred at the airport's international arrival area (Canopy-2) around 9:15pm.
According to airport sources and CCTV footage, a group of five passengers had completed their formalities and were exiting the Canopy 2 area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. One passenger blocked the walkway near the gate with a trolley, causing inconvenience to others.
Despite repeated requests from a security officer to move, the passenger refused and became agitated, resulting in a scuffle.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Group Captain Kamrul Islam, the airport's executive director, said that during the altercation, the passenger's son attacked and assaulted the security officer, escalating the incident.
"Other security personnel, including members of Ansar and Aviation Security, intervened to diffuse the situation," he added.
A video of the incident showed around 10 security personnel surrounding Sayed Uddin, with some appearing to strike him. A woman could be heard screaming for help in the footage.
Airport sources reported that the passengers had arrived in Dhaka from Norway via Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR-638. Their hometown is Sonagazi in Feni.
