Now situation normal on Uttara-Banani road
The passengers blocked the road around 10am
Vehicular movement was halted on Uttara-Banani road on Wednesday from one and half an hour as agitated passengers the road in Khilkhet area protesting the government decision on reducing number of passengers on public transport and hike of bus fare amid rising trend of Covid-19.
However, the situation has become normal now.
The passengers blocked the road around 10am, said Liton Motin, inspector (patrol) of Banani Police Station.
The blockade created long tailback of vehicles on the road.
However, the situation became normal as they cleared road around 11:30am.
Meanwhile, the city dwellers, mostly office goers, are undergoing immense sufferings from Wednesday morning as public transports are not carrying more than 50 percent passengers in Dhaka following a government directive. The bus fare also hiked by 60%.
A lot of commuters were seen walking out of frustration as buses were not halting at the stops because there were no seats available.
A set of new restrictions was imposed as Bangladesh is witnessing an alarming rise of Covid-19 cases over the past few weeks.
