Police identify 6 involved in Bernicat's motorcade attack
However, none of them have been arrested yet
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have identified six people involved in the attack on the motorcade of former US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat a year ago.
They are Rasel, Firoz, Kajol, Raju, Saju and Akash.
The investigation team has got another suspect’s name called Biplob.
However, none of them have been arrested yet.
“The investigation is going on. We have got some evidence. But, before completing the investigation, we cannot say anything,” said Mokhlesur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the DB, told The Business Standard.
Bernicat’s motorcade came under attack at Mohammadpur on her way back from a visit to the house of Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar in the capital’s Mohammadpur on August 4, 2018.
A group of armed men chased the motorcade and threw brick at the vehicles.
They also attacked Badiul Alam’s house.
On August 5, Badiul filed a general diary with Mohammadpur police station over the attack on his house.
On August 10, the complaint was filed as a case and the DB was assigned to investigate the incident.
The US wanted to know about the progress in Bernicat’s motorcade attack case when Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen visited America in July this year.
On July 31, the Foreign Ministry sent a letter to the Home Ministry, asking about the latest update on the case.
According to the Home Ministry, police talked to several eyewitnesses, collected evidence and also identified the motorcycles used in the attack.
