10 BNP men injured in attack on way to Barishal road march
At least 10 leaders and activists of BNP were injured after being attacked allegedly by activists of Awami League in Barishal's Gournadi upazila on Saturday (23 September).
The BNP men were on their way to join the party's road march held on the demand for the resignation of the government.
Barishal North District Jubo Dal Convenor Md Syedul Alam said he along with other party men left for Barishal from Dhaka in a microbus this morning to join the road march programme.
"When we reached Gournadi bus stand around 9am, 15-20 people from Awami League and allied organisations stopped our microbus. They assaulted us after conducting a search in the microbus," he said.
Gournadi upazila Chhatra Dal member Rakib Sikder said, "When I reached the Mahilara bus stand around 9am to join the road march, Mahilara Jubo League General Secretary Md Russell Rari and five to seven others beat me with sticks. When other Chhatra Dal members came to rescue me, they were also attacked."
Regarding the allegations, Jubo League leader Russell Rari said, "I am not involved in the incident. The attack took place due to the internal conflicts of the BNP."
Gournadi Model police station Officer-in-Charge Md Afzal Hossain said, "I am not aware of any incident of attack. I have not received any written complaint. If found, legal action will be taken."
