Agents of conspirators infiltrated BNP: Tarique Rahman
He said their party must return to power with the support of the people to implement their 31-point proposal and serve the public
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman cautioned party members today (17 December) to remain vigilant against lingering elements of autocracy.
"The head of the autocracy has fled, but their tail remains. We must be aware of them. [Their] agents have also infiltrated our ranks. We must speak out against them," he said in a virtual workshop organised by the Narayanganj district BNP on the "Framework for State Reform: Implementation of the 31-Point Programme."
Addressing party workers, he stressed the challenges ahead of the upcoming elections.
"The elections will be very difficult. We want to win this election with the support of the people. If anyone thinks that the opposition has fled and elections will be easy, that is not true."
He highlighted the trust placed in the BNP by the public, saying, "When people know you are involved in BNP politics, they greet you and ask, 'Brother, when will the election be?' Businessmen say, 'Brother, when will the election be, otherwise, our business is not doing well.' This shows people's expectations of you and their belief that BNP can do something good."
Tarique further said earning and maintaining public trust is the greatest success of a political party.
"It is not the people's responsibility to maintain this trust; it is ours. People will judge the BNP based on your actions in your area. If you are good, the BNP is good; if you are bad, the BNP is bad."
He urged strict action against party members who damage the organisation's reputation.
"Those who do wrong must face strict action. You are here today as leaders with many people under you. Ensure that no one tarnishes the party's image for personal gain."
Tarique Rahman also discussed the significance of the 31-point programme.
"Today's workshop focuses on grassroots-level leaders. Earlier, we held similar programmes with central and divisional leaders. These discussions are for the country and its people. You know how people came out on the streets during the July-August movement. This 31-point programme is for them."
The workshop was attended by prominent BNP leaders, including former Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, BNP Executive Committee member Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, BNP Dhaka Division Joint Organising Secretary Nazrul Islam Azad, Narayanganj District BNP President Mohammad Giyasuddin, and General Secretary Golam Faruk Khokon, alongside other district-level leaders.
