AL welcomes interim govt's drive against looted arms
The Awami League (AL) has welcomed the government's initiative for a joint operation to recover weapons and ammunition.
"We welcome the joint operation to recover weapons and ammunition. As criminals are wreaking havoc across the country, it is imperative to arrest them in public interest," the party said in a post in its verified Facebook page.
However, the AL said no innocent people should be harassed during this operation.
The party, which lost power in a student-led upsurge on 5 August, said those involved in looting hundreds of police stations in Bangladesh "must be arrested by due process of the law".
"Make sure no innocent people are arrested. We want a Bangladesh free of drugs and illegal weapons," the AL's Facebook status said.
The government on 4 September will conduct a joint operation, comprising the police, army, BGB and other forces, across the country to recover illegal weapons.
