AL’s fascism an established reality: Jamaat ameer
He stressed on establishing justice and holding the Awami League accountable for their actions through a fair trial
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has labelled the ruling Awami League (AL) as a "self-proclaimed fascist" entity, asserting that this is an "established fact" in the country's political discourse.
"The Awami League must be held accountable for its actions over the past 16 years. They not only trampled on people's rights but also plunged the country into chaos, even killing people in plain sight," he said while speaking at a civic reception in London's Royal Regency organised by Coalition for Peace and Justice in Bangladesh today (18 November).
At the event, the Jamaat chief stressed on establishing justice and holding the Awami League accountable for their actions through a fair trial.
He alleged that the Awami League began its "politics of killings" with the massacre of 57 patriotic army officers and their family members at the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana on 25-26 February 2009.
He claimed this was a deliberate attempt to weaken the morale of the Bangladesh Army and dismantle the BDR forces.
Following these incidents, he said, the Awami League turned its attention to targeting Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
"When we suffered, the conscientious leaders of our nation failed to understand where this chain of events would lead," he remarked.
Dr Shafiq stated that top Jamaat leaders have been martyred through "judicial killings".
"All the allegations against Khaleda Zia, former Jamaat ameer Professor Ghulam Azam, Matiur Rahman Nizami, and other Jamaat leaders were false and fabricated, a fact that has now been proven," he added.
