Anti-sculpture campaigners must be resisted: Food minister
The minister urges all like-minded organisations make united efforts to protect the sculptures of the Father of the Nation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and the nation as a whole
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has said anti-sculpture campaigners must be resisted wherever they speak out – be it in villages or cities.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled "Mujib Year-2020 and ongoing politics", organised at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Friday.

"It is not enough only to hold seminars and symposiums on Bangabandhu's ideology. We have to protect the sculptures of the Father of the Nation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country and the nation as a whole by strengthening the organisation with our own strength," Sadhan Chandra Majumder said.
He urged all like-minded organisations to unite and make efforts to this end.
"We have seen people unite in villages and upazilas, draw out huge processions and hold demonstrations and protests in reaction to the demolition of Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia."
This is a good sign, but it needs to be strengthened, he added.
"We could not save the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman even in 1975 when we were in power. It is time to analyse why we failed to do that."
That day came to the country long ago, but those who killed Bangabandhu failed to understand that a martyred Skeikh Mujib is stronger than a living one, said the minister.
The anti-liberation forces view the mega development projects like the Padma Multipurpose Bridge and the installations of Bangabandhu's sculpture far and wide across the country as a threat to their existence, and that is why they are trying to demolish the sculpture of the Father of the Nation and standing up to its setting up, observed the food minister.
Bangabandhu Academy Adviser Lion Chitta Ranjan Das presided over the discussion which was, among others, addressed by Awami League Senior Vice-president Nurul Amin Ruhul of Dhaka Metropolitan South, Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance President Arun Sarkar Rana, Awami League leader MA Karim and Minhazul Uddin Mintu.
