Ban on Jamaat, Shibir to be withdrawn on Tuesday: Lawyer claims

Lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliated organisations, Advocate Md Shishir Monir, has claimed that the government will withdraw the ban on the party tomorrow (27 August).
"We talked to the home ministry and learned that the entire process has been completed. As far as I know, the government will remove the ban tomorrow as today is a holiday," Shishir said.
The lawyer announced this at a press briefing at the Supreme Court premises today (26 August).
When asked about the process in which the ban is being removed, Shishir said that the government is following due legal process.
"On 1 August, the then Awami League government banned Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir and other affiliated organisations using the power under section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009. The home ministry will withdraw the ban following section 19 of the same law," the Jamaat lawyer said.
Shishir said, "We do not know why Jamaat was banned. We believe that the party was banned for political reasons.
"The students and people of the country have protested against this fascist government. Jamaat-e-Islami has also played a role as an allied force. The party has had a significant role in forming Dr Yunus's interim government," he added.
"After the order banning Jamaat is withdrawn, steps will be taken to revive the case in the Appellate Division to regain the party's registration," the lawyer further said.
