Forge national unity, announce election roadmap promptly: BNP tells Yunus
They also asked the chief adviser to increase the number of TCB trucks that sell daily essentials at fair prices to low-wage earners
The top BNP leaders today (27 November) stressed the need for national unity and urged the interim government to promptly announce the election roadmap to fend off those trying to destabilise the country.
"What is needed now is national unity. We face significant challenges ahead, and to overcome them, we must unite as a nation to resist those who are trying to destabilise the country," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a press briefing after the meeting at the CA's official residence Jamuna this evening.
He said "At the meeting, we have emphasised that completing electoral reforms and announcing the election roadmap as soon as possible is crucial."
Fakhrul said they also asked the chief adviser to increase the number of TCB trucks that sell daily essentials at fair prices to low-wage earners.
He urged the government to reduce commodity prices.
The BNP leader accused the fascist Awami League cohorts of maintaining control over the agricultural sector, alleging that they are causing disruptions in fertiliser distribution programmes.
Fakhrul further called for ensuring that there are no obstacles in paying ready-made garment (RMG) workers' wages in industrial areas.
He urged the government to assist workers, even by providing them with loans if necessary.
He also emphasised the need to dissolve the trade bodies and conduct Upazila Parishad elections.
Earlier, a five-member BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul entered the CA's residence at 6:00pm, said BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
The delegation includes party standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salauddin Ahmed.
Shayrul Kabir stated that Iqbal Hasan Tuku, a member of the party's standing committee, could not attend the meeting as he is currently in Sirajganj.
Earlier on 23 October, three BNP leaders met with the chief adviser at Jamuna.
Regarding the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan stated they urged the government to ensure that no new constitutional crisis arises in the country.
