BNP leader Hafiz calls to dissolve EC within 24 hours
The BNP leader expressed his willingness to give the interim government time, stating, 'Announce a roadmap soon, and arrange for election within a reasonable timeframe'
BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has called on the interim government to dissolve the Election Commission within 24 hours.
"This is not the people's commission. For the sake of democracy, the EC must be dissolved immediately," the BNP leader said while speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting organised by the Jatiotabadi Matsyajeebi Dal at the Jatiya Press Club's Maulana Akram Khan Hall today (27 August).
He also alleged that the commission stole votes at night and even a day earlier.
He further said, "Every citizen of this country wants democracy. We do not want the rule of a neighbouring country, nor any other foreign rule."
He urged the advisory council to consult with the political parties if the interim government wants democracy.
"Engage in dialogue with the political parties that have had representation in the parliament in the past. Discuss with them how to advance democracy and take recommendations from them," he said.
The BNP leader expressed his willingness to give the interim government time, stating, "Establishing democracy will take time. There is no alternative to elections for establishing democracy in this country.
"Announce a roadmap soon, and arrange for election within a reasonable timeframe. Allow the people's representatives to take responsibility for the state," he added.
Claiming the Awami League led-government was supported by India, he said, "If India desires a friendship, they should return the murderers to Bangladesh."
