BNP optimistic govt will make reforms and announce election outlines soon
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party is optimistic that the interim government would make necessary reforms and announce the outlines for holding a national election soon.
During a meeting with the chief adviser at state guesthouse Jamuna today (29 August), a BNP delegation discussed reform ideas of the interim government in various areas and shared their perspectives on elections.
After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party is optimistic that the government would go for holding the election soon by restoring stability in the country.
The BNP requested Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus to take initiatives to hold dialogues with political parties regarding the next elections.
Replying to a question if the date for election came up for discussion in the meeting, Fakhrul said, "We have not discussed any date [for holding election]. We won't say the date. It is they who will say it."
At the meeting, the BNP delegation wanted to know about the economic situation of the country and agreed on the concerns and possibilities that exist in the current situation.
The BNP leaders expressed full support for the actions taken by the interim government and affirmed that this support will continue in the future.
The three member BNP delegation includes party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed.
Interim government advisers Dr Asif Nazrul and Wahiduddin Mahmud also attended the meeting.
