Detention of fishermen, sailors by India tantamount to provocation: Jamaat
Parwar urged the government to take bold steps to ensure the return of the detained Bangladeshis
The recent detention of 79 fishermen and sailors by the Indian Coast Guard is "tantamount to provocation", Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said today (11 December).
"The Indian Coast Guard has illegally detained 79 Bangladeshi fishermen and sailors along with two fishing trawlers from the Sundarbans on 10 December noon. It is a sad and unexpected incident," the Jamaat leader said in a statement, expressing deep concern over the incident.
"We are deeply worried by this incident, which is tantamount to incitement. This incident is a serious threat to the security of independent and sovereign Bangladesh. Such incidents must stop immediately," the statement reads.
Parwar urged the government to take bold steps to ensure the return of the detained Bangladeshis.
"I'm calling upon the Bangladesh government to take necessary security measures so that such an incident does not happen in the future," he said.
