Disgruntled Kushtia BNP activists protest, demand dissolution of new committee
The protesters argue that the new committee includes individuals who were not actively involved in the party during difficult times
Disgruntled leaders and activists of Kushtia district BNP staged a protest today (17 November), demanding the dissolution of the newly formed 31-member convening committee.
The demonstration, held from 10:00am to 11:00am, included a human chain stretching half a kilometre along NS Road, followed by a protest march and rally.
The event caused significant traffic disruptions in the city and nearby roads.
The protesters claim that the new committee, led by Kutub Uddin Ahmed and Zakir Hossain Sarkar, is a "pocket committee" that excludes experienced leaders who have sacrificed for the party.
They argue that the committee includes individuals who were not actively involved in the party during difficult times.
Former district BNP leaders, including Kajal Mazumdar and Shamim ul Hasan, spoke at the rally, criticising the new committee and vowing to intensify their protests.
"This pocket committee must be dissolved. No true BNP leader in Kushtia will accept its leadership," said former joint general secretary Kajal Mazmadar.
Shamim ul Hasan, former organising secretary of district BNP, echoed the sentiment and called on BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to intervene and form a search committee to investigate the matter.
The protesters issued a 72-hour ultimatum and threatened to intensify their actions if their demands are not met.
