Do not play with snakes: Information minister to BNP
He added that those who called the freedom fighters infidels are debating sculptures today and if one looks into history, one can understand that their predecessors opposed Bangladesh’s liberation
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has said BNP has always used fundamentalists as a puppet of politics.
Addressing BNP, the information minister said, "Do not play with snakes, because they will bite you."
He made the comment while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion programme at the National Press Club, organised by the Swadhinata Parishad on Wednesday.
Alleging that BNP always supports fundamentalists, the minister said, "Those who treat religion as a business are creating controversy over a sculpture. Religion has not been leased to those who are debating the sculpture of Bangabandhu."
He said those who called the freedom fighters infidels are debating sculptures today and if one looks into history, one can understand that their predecessors opposed Bangladesh's liberation.
Hasan Mahmud said, "We will take the people with us to stop this radical evil. People have become vocal now. We will not allow the spirit of freedom to be distorted."
Regarding Hefazat-e-Islam, he said, "There are allegations that Allama Shafi was humiliated. Even his son was not allowed to take part in the janaza. How can those who cannot protect their own scholars protect Islam?"
Alleging that Ziaur Rahman was a prudent and cunning conspirator, the information minister said Rahman was behind the conspiracy against the country.
"He first put Mostaq in power, and later removed him to come to power himself," he added.
Barrister Biplab Barua, office secretary of Awami League, also spoke at the ceremony which was presided over by Harunur Rashid, advisor of Swadhinata Parishad.
