BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (20 August) requested India to legally hand over Sheikh Hasina to the Bangladesh government.
"Extradite her [Hasina] to Bangladesh for prosecution and let the Bangladeshi people's will be upheld through the legal process," Fakhrul said while talking to reporters after paying tribute to party founder Ziaur Rahman's grave this afternoon.
The BNP leader said, "The fascist tyrant and oppressor, Sheikh Hasina, fled the country during the student uprising, abandoning her people. Unfortunately, our neighbouring country, India, has given her refuge. From there, she has once again begun plotting to undermine the student revolution in Bangladesh."
Mentioning that the people of this country do not underestimate Sheikh Hasina's crimes, he said, "They [people] believe that her 15 years' fascist regime has weakened Bangladesh's independence and harmed the nation."
Regarding the interim government, he said, "I believe some time is definitely needed to address the mess created by the Awami League government. To ensure a proper and fair election, the interim government should be given time to work towards that goal and implement necessary reforms. The people of this country will surely support them in this endeavour."
The BNP secretary general also praised the steps taken by the interim government over the past 11 days.
