Working to bring movement to its final stage: Fakhrul
BNP, allies discuss simultaneous movement and how to move it forward
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party and its allies are working to bring their ongoing anti-government movement to its final phase with a one-point demand of holding the next general elections under a non-party government.
"Thirty-six parties are aligned with the movement against the government," Fakhrul stated at a briefing after meeting with delegations of Gonoforum and Bangladesh People's Party on Friday.
Referring to the meeting, the BNP secretary general said they discussed the simultaneous movement and how to move it forward.
"There was a discussion on how to bring the demands of all parties into a one-point movement," he mentioned.
"We are very optimistic that the people of this country have united. They will force this illegitimate government to step down and establish a people's government," Fakhrul added.
Describing the ruling government as "fascist and anti-people", Fakhrul said this government has taken away all the rights of the people, especially, the right to vote, speak, and write.
Gonoforum General Secretary Subrata Chowdhury said the people of this country feel that this government cannot be kept in power for another moment. "We have said that the next election should be under a certain government."
"There will be no elections in Bangladesh except under a non-partisan government. Otherwise, people won't accept the election. For that purpose, we are going to launch a one-point movement soon," he added.
BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were present in the meeting on behalf of the BNP.
Gonoforum's Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Prof Abu Syed, Jaglul Haider Afrik, Mohiuddin Abdul Quader; and Bangladesh People's Party's Babul Sardar Chakhari and Md Abdul Quader were also present at the meeting.
