The Awami League has lured the individuals – mostly lesser-known ones – of other parties into running in the upcoming national elections by unethical means such as offering money, duping and tempting, BNP Senior Joint BNP Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged.
"The Awami League has turned into a party that lures people [of other parties] into them," he said at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.
The senior BNP leader further stated that the Awami League has managed to lure several "leftovers" and displaced leaders [of the BNP] to the party with money for the upcoming elections.
However, those who believe in the ideologies of the BNP could not be lured to the elections, he added.
Rizvi alleged that the ministers of the incumbent government often spread nonsensical information on various issues.
Criticising Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, for his remarks that the BNP would engage in sabotage on the Human Rights Day to be observed on 10 December, Rizvi asked for the source of such information.
"The Awami League itself creates the dramas of militants and sabotage," he added.
Rizvi further said that all those who are running in the elections are the prime minister's [Sheikh Hasina's] men, alleging that the electoral process is "orchestrated" by the government and those who will be elected are already selected by the government.
Around 6:30am yesterday, Rizvi led a flash procession in Rajshahi's Terokhadia in observance of the nationwide blockades called by the party demanding resignation of the incumbent government and the national elections under a poll-time caretaker government.
After the march, he said the people would destroy the government's plan to hold another voterless election, adding, "The people will not allow unilateral elections."
Rizvi further stated that the Awami League is already isolated from the people and once again moving along the path of an orchestrated election.
"They [AL] thought they would manage to organise another election like they did in 2014 and 2018. But it will not be allowed to happen this time."
The election implementing the government's blueprint will be resisted by people at any cost, added Rizvi
