HT Imam passes away
HT Imam, a veteran Awami League leader and political adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has died at the capital's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Wednesday midnight. He was 86.
He breathed his last at 1:15am while undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Barrister Biplab Barua, prime minister's special assistant, and office secretary of the ruling party.
Two weeks ago, HT Imam was admitted to the CMH with various age-related ailments including kidney complications. His health condition started to deteriorate on Tuesday.
The first namaj-e-janaza of HT Imam will be held at 11 am today at the Ullapara Akbar Ali Government College ground in Sirajganj.
His body will be kept at the central Shaheed Minar from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm for paying respect.
The second janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr prayer.
Then, he will be buried at Banani Graveyard
Hossain Toufique Imam had been serving as the political advisor to the Prime Minister since 2014. He was better known as HT Imam in the political arena of the country.
HT Imam was born on 15 January 1935. He completed his graduation in Economics from Rajshahi University and Masters in the same major from Dhaka University.
Later, he moved to London School of Economics and completed higher studies in development administration.
HT Imam played a significant role during the Liberation War. He served as the cabinet secretary in the Mujibnagar government, a very first administrative body that dreamt of an independent Bangladesh.
