Jamaat men suffered most during AL govt’s tenure: Party leaders at protest rally
Leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami have claimed that their party men suffered the most oppression during the ruling Awami League government's tenure.
During a protest rally in Bogura on Monday (25 September), the city's Jamaat Ameer Principal Abidur Rahman Sohel said, "Jamaat-e-Islami has suffered the most oppression during the tenure of this government."
Reiterating its decision not to participate in any elections except one under a caretaker government, the party has been staging nationwide demonstrations at all divisional cities since 19 September, to demand the release of party Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman and activists, and the withdrawal of fabricated cases against them.
Jamaat leaders organised protest rallies today in Tangail, Bogura, Panchagarh, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Kishoreganj, Chapainawabganj, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Patuakhali, Natore, Bhola, Noakhali, Cox's Bazar and other districts.
Speaking at the Bhola rally, Jamaat District Secretary Md Harunur Rashid said, "It is important to restore democracy from the grips of the current undemocratic government, free the nation from curses like enforced disappearances, killings and crossfires, and build an effective democratic state."
He called upon the people to implement the goal and to establish a people's government through a free, fair, participatory and impartial election under a caretaker government.
