Munshiganj Shibir holds first public meeting after almost 14 years

The Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir's Munshiganj unit today (27 September) held its first public meeting in nearly 14 years.
The meeting was held at the Munshiganj Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the morning, with Shibir activists from across the district attending the event.
Previously, the organisation held its last public meeting in the district in November 2010, according to Munshiganj Shibir President Muzahidul Islam.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Shibir's Central Literature Secretary Sigbatullah said the youth of Bangladesh have set a new precedent for the world. "There have been many revolutions and coups in the world. In every instance, one armed group has resisted another armed group. But in Bangladesh, there has been a revolution where unarmed common people have stood against the weapons."
He alleged that money equal to the size of two national budgets had been smuggled during the Awami League regime. "Can you think of so much corruption?"
He said, "People were exploited the most by those who were given the responsibility of law and order. Those entrusted with the responsibility of education and security brought police to campuses and attacked students.
"It was unfortunate for us that the judges who were asked to ensure justice were the ones who wronged the people most."
