No one knows when, where Mujib made independence declaration, claims Jamaat chief
“Sheikh Hasina had returned to this country only to avenge her father's murder and to pledge Bangladesh's territory to India in exchange for power,” he also said
No one in the country knows when or from where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made the declaration of independence of Bangladesh in 1971, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman claimed today (16 December).
Speaking at a party event marking Victory Day at Paltan in Dhaka, he said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman made the declaration of Independence. "Why wasn't he given due credit for this?"
"Why did Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hang a Pakistani flag on his residence on 23 March [of 1971] if he called for the fight for independence on 7 March? At the time, students removed that flag and put a Bangladeshi flag there," claimed the Jamaat ameer.
Criticising the leaders of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, "Those who have sold the freedom of Bangladesh, have now fled the country. They have moved to the country, the ideals of which they hold dear and cherish.
"Sheikh Hasina had returned to this country only to avenge her father's murder and to pledge Bangladesh's territory to India in exchange for power."
"Who killed Sheikh Mujib? The pro-independence army members killed him. Why? Because Sheikh Mujib started the journey of Indian supremacy in this country by establishing Bakshal outside of the spirit of the Liberation War.
"His daughter later killed scholars, students, farmers, labourers and the common people of this country to pay homage to India," said Shafiqur.
He also said, "If Jamaat-e-Islami gets the responsibility of running the state, all murders from 28 October 2006 to 5 August 2024 will be properly investigated and justice will be done."
