No room for genocide perpetrators in BNP: Fakhrul
He said the only way to overcome corruption and fascism is to establish true democracy
Those involved in genocide, corruption, and acts of terror have no place in the BNP, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (24 December).
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at a blanket distribution programme at the Thakurgaon Public Library this afternoon.
Asked about Awami League leaders reportedly joining the BNP in various districts, Fakhrul responded, "I am not aware of this matter. However, I can firmly state that we have clear instructions — individuals who are terrorists, involved in genocide, or engaged in corruption will not be accepted into the BNP."
He said, "The people of Thakurgaon face significant hardship during winter. We had hoped the government would step in to distribute winter clothes to the poor. However, I have not seen any such initiative so far.
"In response, we have collected some winter clothing on behalf of our party. I hope the government will take action in this regard and distribute blankets to those in need."
Addressing the issue of fascism, the senior BNP leader said, "The only way to overcome corruption and fascism is to establish true democracy. The rule of the people must prevail, meaning the country should be governed by a parliament elected by the people. I am not aware of any other solution."
He went on to say that if democratic institutions can be strengthened, they will serve as the greatest safeguard.
